Vice City references in Ballad of Gay Tony

Here at GTA 5 Rumors just lately, a few of us have been playing the GTA IV expansion “The Ballad of Gay Tony”.  As we’ve been playing it, a number of discussions on our forum have risen in relation to the possibility of links to Rockstar releasing the new GTA game in Vice City.

We’ll just name a few examples here that I have personally observed during my experience.

1. Everything seems to have been brightened up significantly. This is exactly what happened between GTA III and Vice City.
2. Clubs are back. There were no actual clubs in GTA III, but there were in the following Vice City.
3. Many of the missions in BoGT reference Vice City in their dialogue.
4. Vice City FM was made a ratio station in BoGT.

For full details of referencing observations, see this post on our forum.

Let’s hope we have some official information soon!

  1. If you looked at the history of GTA – the main ones; a GTA game has never made reference to the next city that would be in the next game in a generation. For example; GTA 3 never made reference to Vice City, but GTA Vice City followed after GTA 3. Likewise, GTA Vice City never made reference to San Andreas and of course GTA San Andreas followed. Just something to keep in mind.

that´s not true. In San Andreas CJ come from liberty city. sweet mentioned if cj was going back to lc. catalina dated with claude and they go to lc. of course this was before gta3. and you do a mission in lc with cj for salvatore. later gta liberty city stories come out.

  2. Plenty of GTA’s had references to the next Grand Theft Auto game. For example in San Andreas Liberty City was mentioned quite often in-game.

A hint in GTA III for Vice City: http://www.eeggs.com/items/51479.html

Rockstar always put some hints into the GTA games. Mostly just to mess around with everyone, but if you really pay attention to details in the game, you can make out a pretty good guess on where the next Grand Theft Auto game will take place.
I’m certainly not saying that it’s 100 % accurate. I’m just saying that there are hints and references at all. ;)

  3. Remember the GTA 1 map ?

    GTA III = Liberty City
    GTA Vice city = obvious?
GTA San Andreas = obvious :P

    GTA IV = Liberty City
    GTA V = Vice City
    GTA VI = San Andreas

Although, I think rockstart would come with something new.
    GTA 1 Spoiled all the city’s :)

  4. GTA 1 didn’t really spoil the cities – at that time there was no telling how far will Rockstar advance and whether they’ll re-use some of the cities ;)

And even now – there really is no way to know what city will R* chose – might be a re-make of VC or SA or even London… OR they go for something completely new. Time will tell. :)

  5. And in the commercial after finishing the game you can hear that the man who found the diamonds is going to open up Ammunations in , guess where? VICE CITY.

    • There are references of other cities in IV. I hope that they can build many cities such as New Orleans, Vegas, Miami, LA. Maybe add them as a DLC so that all the games can tie in together, such as your character may visit Brucie in LC

    • I thought this too. I mean, it makes perfect sense. Plus, the diamonds are one of the biggest plot devices in IV, TLATD and TBOGT. It would be almost nostalgic if the diamonds where somehow continued in V, but not as a main plot device.

  6. I certainly hope GTA5 is in vice city. The last one was so cool to play. A modern day Vice City or another ‘back to the 80′s’ VC would be sweet. Im crossing fingers.

  7. IF you ever played the original “top down” GTA, and played all the missions. Then you will have known that in the original GTA, you started in liberty city, then you traveled to vice city, and then finally to San Andreas. Then the ps2/xbox’s came out, rockstar developed a new game engine and released all three titles again. Now we have next-gen systems, and with GTA IV, we yet again have a new game engine. Whose to say they wont do the exact same thing once more and release all three in a row. However, back on PS1, they had “London” Mission packs. There is some speculations that there are Europe references in the TBOGT DLC. So maybe that’s something to look into. Though, with the next title going to be GTA V, I would almost guarantee that the next installment will in fact be Vice city, though hugely redone, and in a new time era. ((though i wouldn’t mind the glitz of the 80′s again at all)) Vice City was this Shiz!

I think it will be in Vice city, because it was mentioned most in GTA IV and TBoGT. For instance, the radio station Vice City FM in TBoGT, and when Roman was sending Niko texts telling him to do the deal with Dimitri at the end of the game, he mentioned that the money you gain from the deal can give you an advantage to take a private jet down to Vice City.
